Three ways to grow giving in South Australia and beyond

Growing giving within our community, and responding to the needs of our community, are the two motivations upon which Foundation SA was built.

As with all community foundations, our structure, our collaborative approach and our strong connections to our local community make philanthropy accessible and impactful for people who may have thought it was out of their reach.

Community foundations remove some of the barriers to philanthropic giving by taking care of things like reporting, governance, investment management and compliance. This frees donors up to focus on creating impact in the issue areas they care about most.

Since our first sub-fund was established in 2021, we’ve seen terrific growth in our local giving community at Foundation SA and through our work, we’ve identified several opportunities to get more South Australians involved in giving.

We shared these opportunities recently in a submission to the Productivity Commission’s Philanthropy Inquiry which is designed to ‘analyse motivations for philanthropic giving in Australia and identify opportunities to grow it further’.

We know that when the opportunity to give is presented in an accessible and compelling way, South Australians are quick to take it up. This was demonstrated again recently with the success of the South Australian Flood Disaster Recovery Fund.

Foundation SA’s mission is to inspire generosity that contributes to a more connected, resilient and sustainable South Australia.
