South Australian Flood Disaster Recovery Fund

South Australian Flood Disaster Recovery Fund

In late 2022 and early 2023, South Australia’s Riverland and Murraylands communities were inundated by flood waters, with more than 4,000 properties impacted — and thousands of South Australians severely impacted and displaced.

Together, South Australians can chip in and support the programs that must take place to rebuild the community. Every donation will be matched by Foundation SA’s philanthropic partners to grow your impact.

Every dollar donated will be matched!

Not only will every dollar you donate reach the people that need it most, but your gift will be maximised through additional generous support from the following philanthropic foundations:

  • Lang Foundation
  • Anonymous Foundation
  • Foundation SA
  • The Wyatt Trust
  • Every dollar donated will reach flood affected South Aussies.
  • All donations matched by Foundation SA’s philanthropic partners.
  • Your generosity will support real on-the-ground programs.

How your donation will support flood affected communities in SA

As the flood recovery starts and the true consequences come to light, we are working directly with communities and community leaders to identify immediate and long-term needs. This is complex given communities have had different challenges and priorities.

Your donations will be pooled with philanthropic gifts to generate a series of grants that will support on-the-ground community-led recovery activities.

Local South Australian non-profits will be invited to apply for grant funding to support the delivery of programs, activities and events that bring people together, enhance community resilience and support local needs throughout the long-term recovery efforts. This will be an easy process to minimise burden on community groups.

With other initiatives and state government funding announced, we will focus on the gaps where recovery support may be missing and will share this insight with you.

All local South Australian community organisations and non-profits working in flood impacted communities.

Applicants do not require DGR status for all grants, however organisations must prove charitable purpose, ideally through registration with the ACNC.  Sole traders, individuals, private or commercial businesses (as per the applicant ABN) are ineligible.

Organisations will be invited to apply for grant funding to support the delivery of programs, activities and events that bring people together, enhance community resilience and support local needs throughout the long-term recovery efforts. As we learn more about what recovery support is missing and what’s needed, we will share these findings with you. As communities will take time to assess what is needed for their recovery efforts, it is anticipated that funding will be distributed for a mixture of short and longer-term initiatives.

To ensure Foundation SA is representative of the needs of the community we serve we engage and consult with donors, community members and subject matter experts to determine the role we play in creating positive impact. Wherever possible, we also seek feedback and guidance from those at the heart of the issues we may be exploring.

Our grants strategy has been developed after an extensive donor and community consultation process and will continue to evolve as we grow and learn.

Donations from the general public will be pooled with philanthropic gifts to generate a series of grants that will support on-the-ground community-led recovery activities. Currently, the private Foundations donating to this campaign are: Foundation SA, The Wyatt Trust, the Lang Foundation and an anonymous foundation.

Foundation SA is well positioned to ensure your donations reach the right people exactly when they need it most.

We consult with community leaders, State and Local Governments and organisations throughout the flood impacted areas to determine where the support needs to be directed.

Not only will every dollar of your donations reach the people impacted by the floods, but your gift will be maximised through additional support from philanthropic foundations.

We will seek grant applications from South Australian organisations that can deliver the activities, programs or services that will support recovery and rebuild resilience and well-being.
