South Australia’s natural environment needs our help and the South Australian Climate & Nature Fund gives communities a dedicated pool of funding for locally-driven environmental projects that create meaningful, grassroots change.

Backed by generous seed funding from the Terra Artemis Foundation, the Fund is open and ready to grow.

Community-led change is needed now

South Australia is home to some of Australia’s most extraordinary landscapes — from the Murray-Darling Basin and the Flinders Ranges to globally significant wetlands, coastlines, and biodiversity hotspots. Many of the species that inhabit these places are found nowhere else on Earth, and these landscapes carry deep cultural significance for First Nations peoples.

But as the driest state in the driest continent, South Australia is also on the frontline of climate change. Floods, prolonged drought, extreme heat, devastating bushfires, and the recent algal bloom crisis are no longer rare events – they are becoming the norm.

What sets the South Australian Climate & Nature Fund apart is its commitment to community ownership. Decision-making sits with a Stewardship Committee made up of environmental NGO leaders, climate advocates, ecological experts, scientists, philanthropic funders, and peak body representatives – people who understand our region and its needs.

Funding will be available to local South Australian communities (both regional and metro), non-profit organisations, and community groups to implement projects. (Read more about the types of initiatives the Fund can support here).

A chance to be part of something bigger

Right now, less than 2 per cent of global philanthropic giving goes toward addressing climate change. By contributing to the South Australian Climate & Nature Fund, you’ll join a growing community of locals from all walks of life, across the state and beyond, who are united by a shared goal to help our natural environment thrive for generations to come.

Every dollar donated goes directly toward funding local projects. All gifts are governed by Foundation SA and disbursed through the Stewardship Committee, ensuring transparency and local accountability at every step.

“Supporting the South Australian Climate & Nature Fund is an opportunity to build a perpetual fund here in SA that provides much needed funding for local climate and environmental initiatives that will benefit us all. We all have the power to make a difference.” – Tim Jarvis AM, Environmental Scientist and 2024 South Australian of the Year
